    Visa & Arrival info

A Visa for Nepal is available on arrival at the Airport for all nationalities that need a visa.

For a stay in Nepal not exceeding three days (72 hours) visitors may apply for a free transit Visa on showing a confirmed onward or return ticket. A Visa must be obtained for staying over the initial period of three days and is available on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

The simple Visa Application Form requires one photograph and payment of US$30. It is suggested that you have exact change. Children below 10 are granted Visas free (gratis). A Multiple Entry Visa costs US$ 80. Both types of Visas are valid for 60 days. Tourists who stay for at least 15 days on a paid visa can visit Nepal again as often as they wish in the same calendar year without additional visa.

Indian Nationals do not need a visa when visiting Nepal. Nationals of SAARC other countries (Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Bhutan) and China will be given a free (gratis) visa on arrival  when visiting Nepal. Sometimes a photograph is asked for even for the free (gratis) visa.

When leaving the country, there is an Airport Departure Tax payable in Nepalese Rupees of Rs. 1,315 (about US$19) to SAARC countries and Rs. 1,695(about US$25) to all other countries. The Domestic Airport tax for flights within the country is US$2.50.

    Arriving at Kathmandu Airport
You will need to have filled in your disembarkation card (Address in Nepal: Le Méridien Kathmandu), Visa Forms with one photo for all passengers (including those below 10 years old) and the Customs clearance form. You stand in the line that says – "Foreigners without visa". Have exact US$ change ready to avoid delays.

After getting your VISA you proceed downstairs – go through the hand baggage X-ray. Get a trolley (on your left side)  – and proceed to get your checked in baggage. You sometimes need to give in your checked-baggage tag stickers (which are usually on your air-ticket) before proceeding to the customs. Customs is fairly straightforward, they usually just let you through or X-ray one bag on the trolley.

After Customs - walk out of the Arrival hall and look for a driver dressed in white with a Le Méridien board with your name on it. In case you cannot spot the driver waiting for you – please wait on the side for a little while.

If you feel something is amiss, you will find a phone at the Hotel Association desk on the right side just outside the Arrival Hall exit. Call one of these numbers: Resort: 4451212 or if there is a problem with that number then only call 4450444 / 4445550. In case more help is needed, approach Hyatt or Everest Hotel reps. In the very worst case, take a taxi. Destination is "Gokarna Golf Club at Rajnikunj Gokarna in Thali village (near Mulpani).

Restrictions on large denomination Indian Currency Notes
It is illegal and a criminal offense to carry Indian Rupees 1,000 and 500 denomination notes. All other denominations are allowed. Please be aware that should you be found to be carrying these 2 denominations of Indian Rupee notes, you will not be allowed to board your flight, and will face numerous legal hurdles including spending a few nights in jail before bail will be accepted.

    Golf Equipment
Bringing Golf Equipment to Kathmandu will not cause visitors any difficulties at customs. Sporting tourism is encouraged in the Kingdom of Nepal, and bringing in a personal golf set and equipment for use during a golfing holiday or business trip is permissible. It is recommended that you bring sun block for any time of year. Though the weather is cool, at this higher altitude the sun is strong.

    Clothing
During winter months (October to March) please carry warm clothes – meaning thick under shirt, long sleeves, sweater, jacket – it is cold at night – it gets down to 5 degrees.

Please bring along walking shoes (gym shoes) and swimming costumes for the indoor temperature controlled pool at Harmony Spa in Gokarna.

    TEMPERATURES – Average °C (day / night)

    Winter     Dec-Feb         19° / 5°
    Spring     Mar-May         27° / 14°
    Summer   Jun-Aug        29° / 20°
    Autumn     Sep-Nov        25° / 15°

The Temperature in Kathmandu is never too hot or too cold (as in below freezing) – it hasn't snowed in the valley for decades. July and August see the monsoon rains which makes the country a cool getaway from the sweltering heat in neighbouring countries. This is also the best time to visit the upper Himalayan regions and Tibet.

Max. / Min. monthly temperatures in degrees Celsius during Jan-Mar 25°/3°. Minimum temperatures are during the late nights and early mornings, with day time temperatures being comfortably cool with warm sunshine. Though it is within the city limits, Gokarna Forest is always a few degrees cooler than it is in downtown Kathmandu.
