Golf Course Description:

Against the backdrop of the snow capped Himalayas, close to the heart of Kathmandu City, South Asia's finest, and one of the world's most spectacular Golf Resort Courses is stunningly set within 470 acres of the hundreds of years old Gokarna Forest Reserve.

Inspired by the myth, magic and mystery of the once forbidden valley, David Kidd of Gleneagles Golf Developments, pitted his skills against those of nature, creating a golf masterpiece. Spread over 140 acres at 4,550 ft. above sea level, the 6,755 yard par 72 course boasts the only bentgrass greens on an 18 hole course in South and S.E. Asia.

Soft cushions of local Bermuda fairways, lush unyielding forests, winding streams, wandering hills and valleys opening to a holy river's plain. Cynical monkey's watch your progress. Shy spotted deer peer from the trees. The lofty Himalayas keep your score. A delight for recreational golfers and one of the pleasurable highlights of the professional tour in the region.

The serenity and settings are overwhelming. Deer and monkey wander freely, as will the spirits of all who enter. Truly an enchanting sanctuary.

Other Descriptions:

Gokarna Forest  Resort, situated in capital of Royal Kingdom of Nepal, on the North Eastern side of Kathmandu city, sits within 470 acres of the ancient Gokarna Forest with the majestic Himalayas, rooftop of the world, providing a dramatic backdrop.

Traditionally the private royal hunting grounds of the Kings of Nepal, this temperate forest of medieval Kathmandu valley is a conserved area, never denuded in over five hundred years of preservation.

A shelter to birds and animals, spotted deer and monkeys abound. A tranquil haven existing in serene harmony with nature.

A winding road climbs leads through the towering trees up to the main complex, comprising a mix of subtly majestic Malla period architecture, Rana period lodges, and sanctuaries harmoniously blending with nature. Further on exotic Forest View cottage rooms are set besides a century old restored Hunter's lodge.

Harmony Spa, just a few steps away, combines therapeutic care within a natural environment impossible to recreate elsewhere. The Spa encompasses specialized massage rooms, a beauty treatment center, an indoor temperature controlled pool complex, a gymnasium overlooking the forest, and luxurious changing rooms each with a Sauna, Steam room, and Jacuzzi.

The 6,755 yard par 72 golf course designed by Gleneagles Golf Developments of Scotland lies in the grassy valleys below. It is a delight for recreational golfers and one of the highlights of the professional tour in the region.

The perfect getaway for a few days pampering at the Spa, spectacular golf, enchanting forest walks, and time close to nature.

A GOLFING HIGH AT POKHARA'S HIMALAYAN GOLF COURSE

Pokhara maybe well known for it's awe-inspiring mountain scenery but a great many golfers are now discovering that if you want a real golfing high, The Himalayan Golf Course, Pokhara is the place to head for in Nepal. It’s a must for the golfing connoisseur.

Adventure golf at its truest, the course’s includes some of the most visually dynamic holes known to golf.

Himalayan Golf Course has certainly been very successful in putting Pokhara in the golfer's map. The course was designed and constructed by an Ex British Army Sandhurst commissioned officer Major Ram Gurung MBE, and opened for play in January 1998. The course has been the venue for the Nepal Surya Western (professional) Open for the past five years.

Located just seven kms. away from downtown Pokhara, the twice played 9 hole course is well laid out for championships at 6,900 yards with a par of 73. It has 11 greens and different tee positions and lies for the most part inside a sweeping canyon created by the Himalayan snowed waters of the Bijayapur river.

Framed by the towering the Annapurna range, cattle and buffalo roam freely providing most of the grass mowing.

The course wanders through aerial cliff drops of hundreds of feet down to the signature island hole within the either tranquil or raging Bijayapur river, full of exposed boulders washed down over centuries from the towering mountains above.

Play on the 1st and 2nd holes at the HGC Pokhara's inaugural course is fairly straightforward as these par 4's are laid out on relatively level ground on each side of the clubhouse.

Your baptism to the truly unique character of this course comes when you step up to the 3rd tee to be confronted with a flawless panorama which encompasses the magnificent Fishtail and Annapurna mountain range. Below your elevated tee you see and hear the meandering Bijayapur Himalayan river some 300 feet below, sheer canyon walls dotted with eagle's nests, waterfalls which burst into life during the monsoon and a barely perceptible flag. Some 300 yards distant and 90 feet below, this small triangular piece of fabric marks the place where your ball should end up after only four strokes.

There is no other experience that duplicates or even comes close to the thrill of teeing off on the 3rd. However this takes nothing away from the sensation of successfully landing your ball on the 5th green, which is known to be the only natural river island hole in the world. Watching the pros victoriously blasting their second shot to the par five, 7th green in the middle of Bijayapur river, leaves one in fascinated awe.

The course has been featured in many international magazines including the ‘Golf World’, movies and travel films. Some of the comments from the club's visitors book are noteworthy:

"The most beautiful and dramatic golf course in the world"

"If God had to choose a golf course to play: This would be it"

"Fantastic. What an experience"

"Absolutely unforgettable"

Without a doubt, Asia's most amazing golf course.

The Yeti's Golf Course is part of the beautiful Fulbari Resort and Spa located on a plateau in the southern part of the Pokhara valley overlooking the Seti River gorge.

Pokhara is the leading holiday centre of Nepal. Located 200 kms west of Kathmandu. The valley with its lakes and foothills lies in the shadow of the mighty Annapurna Himal. Dominating the Pokhara valley is Machapuchare peak (The Fish's Tail).
