International Folk Music Festival 2008 at Gokarna Forest Resort |

The much-awaited event, "International Folk Music Festival 2008 — An Ode to Life and Culture", kicks off at Nasal Chowk at Basantapur this evening. The festival will start at 3:30 p.m. and will be inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Bam Dev Gautam. The four-day musical fiesta will start with a call for peace and harmony through music, where musicians and artistes from five countries — namely South Africa, India, Norway, Palestine and Malawi — and folk groups from five development regions of Nepal will perform sharing a common platform at Gokarna Forest Resort The next day, national and international artistes are invited by President Ram Varan Yadav for a special hi-tea programme at 12 noon at Shital Niwas, Maharajgunj. Right after that, a thematic concert, "Music for Poverty Alleviation", will take place in parallel processing at Nepal Music Centre, Pingalasthan and Patan Durbar Square at 3 in the afternoon. International Folk Music Festival will end with a peace parade that will start at 10 a.m. from Durbar Marg roundabout and will halt at Thamel, where the last concert will take place. The concert starts at 12 noon with the theme, "Music for Unity and Diversity", where again all the artistes and musicians will perform. It is a free show. The event is to celebrate 100 years of Nepali music recording and 25 years of Music Nepal. |
